    Mountain House

I find Mountain House tolerable and use it for last minute prep since I can swing by Walmart on my way out and pick up what I need. When long range planning, I order Hawk Vittles. He claims dinner for two is enough to satisfy two hungry men. I find I can be satisfied 3 times per package and...

    One week from tonight...

I'd be ecstatic (that means extremely happy beyond any comparison) with whatever color Santa comes up with - and it would have to come from Santa since my early Father's Day present from Grandma was a new truck..

    One week from tonight...

...will be Christmas Eve:eek::eek::eek:! I suppose I better start shopping for Grandma. She hasn't been very helpful with suggestions but I know she will be quietly perturbed ( as in not speaking to me). I just had a very large cherry butcher block countertop with fancy composite sink and...

What do you do about bringing food into Canada?

When my sons were younger scouts (early 80's), their troop partnered with a Canadian troop. Every January they would come to our council's winter campout. Over fathers day weekend we went to an invitational shindig up there. Great fun! That's when I decided scouting was not for the boys, it...

    Greetings from the swamp

Welcome Erica. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience here (but generally not from me).

Last paddle of the season ...

If we ever get some skiable snow, winter will pass quickly. Skiing is what keeps me same until the hard water becomes soft again.

What do you do about bringing food into Canada?

Been crossing into Canada (mostly @ Ft Erie/Buffalo - Peace Bridge) since 1964 mostly headed to Algonquin. In the late 70's/early 80's my wife and I assisted taking teenagers up and one year we took a rented school bus - surprisingly easy in and back.even tho coming back the kids were excited...

    New Administrator

Robin, Have truly appreciated all your efforts in keeping canoetripping.net up and running. Too much patience and work required for me, I don't deal with frustration very well. Jon

    Next years trips?

All tentative: 5 days on the Au Sable river in Michigan in May; 3-6 days on the Allegheny in Pa in June; hopefully ADK ice out and pre-ice trips; and some nights on the Kinzua Dam. If I can convince my sons, an Algonquin trip.

Robin, I'll support whatever you need to do to keep the site open. If we need more $$$, I think most of us are willing to kick in to keep things rolling. Jon

    Living better electronically

Jim, Sounds like a good idea. But, now that it has been posted publicly, I'm afraid to try it ( I'm distrustful). I've been putting my key & fob, cell phone and wallet in a smallish dry box and securing it to the thwart in front of me where I can keep an eye on it (remember, I'm...

    Hand wear in colder Temps

I don't do much cold weather paddling (canoes in storage Nov - April) but when I need something to keep my hands warm, I wear an 80% wool blend pair of gloves. If they get wet (actually when) I still have some insulating value. I also have a pair ski gloves with waterproof shells for really...
