An open letter to the group

Thank you so much for wonderful work on this site and the open letter. I have not been on her very long, but, from the outset, it was clear to me that this is intended to be a non-commercial place to share knowledge, gain insight and have fun in a respectful manner. You have need to apologize...

    Big Sauk Lake Minnesota

We had a great paddle on Big Sauk Lake north of Sauk Centre, Minnesota. It is an impoundment on the Sauk River. The wind was fairly calm for a change, the temperature was about 68 and the ice has been out for about ten days. There are few power boats out yet and the bird life was abundant...

    Utility Trailer = Canoe Trailer

Another trailer fan here. We have had the Sportsrig Micro Trailer for a number years and thousands of miles. It provides great security from wind gusts and better mileage. It really is nice behind our go-kart/ Ford Fiesta. It also works well to store the boats in the garage. It isn't for...

    Lunch ideas

We have had good luck with the store-bought dried peanut butter and there is one with chocolate. I am a nut butter fan and this stuff comes pretty close. The plain version works well in Asian soups and stir fries. Homemade dehydrated hummus is wonderful.

    Lunch ideas

Home-dried fruit, fruit leather, crackers, cheese, sausage, jerky, rehydrated hummus, Nutella, Clif bars, hot soup, GORP, leftover baked goods from the previous evening or morning and Crystal Light or hot cocoa for a beverage. The GORP always seems to be dessert for lunch. If we are on a day...

    Breakfast ideas

We have had good luck using butter powder (a different brand) for sauces for pasta and gnocchi. The dried egg brand that we used did not look very pleasing but it turned out well in a baked egg dish and breakfast wrap.

    Another use for reflective tape

Just got our new paddles labeled/color coded. Not traditional paddles, sorry. But now we know which one is ours and which is the spare. Happy Easter.

Greetings from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!

Marquette is beautiful, you are very fortunate to live there. Camping was somewhat tricky and not as flexible as we would liked. We were unable to find a couple of the western sites and had to modify our plans. We could not find the first two listed sites. First night, Escanaba State Forest...

Greetings from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!

Welcome to you from the central lakes area of Minnesota. Two years ago we took a kayak trip from Big Bay to a Grand Marais following the Hiawatha Water a Trail. We fell in love with the U.P. It has much beauty and many recreational opportunities. We met Bill at Big Bay Outfitters and he was...

    Map Case

Very nice case, very classy looking. I have had very good look with the SealLine medium size map case. It has proven to be durable, easy to see through, waterproof and doesn't seem to scratch very easily. It is fairly inexpensive. The only problem I seem to have is getting it open. The...

    Filtering black water streams

I don't believe that I have ever filtered black water. However, in Minnesota, we have quite brown, tannin-rich water. The filter set-up that we use is a Katadyn Pocket Filter. I have made some changes that seem to have worked well for us. It has the standard infeed prefilter, an added...

    Cuyuna cntry

Very nice paddling. I first went with friend from the area. The water is very clear. It is eerie To paddle over trees that were flooded after the pits closed. I believe that one access was closed last summer and I am not sure of the status of that access. There is some camping available...
