    Reflector Oven

One of the great uses of a reflector is as a warming oven. No more cold bacon and pancakes while finishing off the batter. Dave

BWCA first time, solo, August 2018

You got past with would not but tried to use the apostrophe instead of did not. I believe if you eliminate all apostrophes, quotation marks etc it will work. Check out the Great Slave Lake report. That is where I got the info.

    Suitable Canoe for Poling?

Keep in mind the more narrow and shorter canoe will also require more water to prevent grinding on rocks than a wider and longer tandem. Going against the current will also require caution in the very shallow spots. This applies to all hull shapes and lengths. Dave

    Just ordered a SPOT II

I have the Inreach by Delorme/Garmin. I like the price of the lowest level plan and the fact it is so easy to deactivate/reactivate during the year. The ability to send either pre planned messages or composed ones helps prevent inadvertant worry by those left behind. I have also been able to get...

    Photo of the day

There's one sporting camp (Pierce Pond Camps) located on Lower Pierce. They're resposible for the campsites.Several sites on the Lower Pond, and one on Upper. Most of the land around the area is owned by private land management companies. There's an Appalachian Trail shelter next to an old...

    Big Canoes

No Title I'm a big fan of the 18 1/2' and 20' EM Whites (have 3 of them). They float on a heavy dew and are a dream to pole. The 20's a bit of a bear on the portage. First 2 pics are of the 2, 20's, and the blue one is an 18 1/2. Dave

    Another Prospector

Mine came from an old harness maker in Maine. I don't use it a lot, but when I have a tumpline or pack basket harness to make it comes in real handy. Dave

    Maine Hunting Shoe

I use a pair of waxed canvas Bean boots with neoprene socks for my day use/ wading, and change into a 10" standard Maine Hunting shoe for around camp. Been wearing them for 60+ years. I remember the store when it was upstairs from the boot factory and everything was displayed in bins. Dave

    Need a ADK Outhouse

While I'm not a fan of ponchos while canoeing, they do give a certain bit of modesty to the exposed thunder box. Dave
