Not my stuff but good stuff at a good price!

I have rebuilt two of those Tremblays and got the chance to paddle one often this summer. They are a very nice paddling canoe. A bit heavy with all the mahogany but for a cottage boat they are reallly nice.

    Older canoe repair

Nice save. That is a lot of work and a great result.

    Portage rating scale

Sometimes that 30% can turn out to be usefull.

    Portage rating scale

If I need to fire up the gas axe then it goes up one level. If I need to wear hip waders at either end it goes up one. If I need to wear them on the actual portage trail it goes up two. We did have to stop and camp in the middle of one once....it was an all day affair with three separate ports...

    Shelta Hats

Over the years I have had to wear many hats...literally. Berets are my least favourite, second only to a steel helmet. I have had many different incarnations of the bush hat but my Tilley is the ultimate in uber chic poserness. A small tilt and a rakish angle draw adoring glances at every put...

A nice summery picture to look at instead of this white stuff. Maskwa River in Manitoba, 2019.

    Canoes and guns...

I dont hunt large game any more as it is too much work for me after I shoot them. When I did indulge though, I used a 6.5 Mauser...very similar to a .270. I still have one but it is mostly gathering dust now. I do like lever actions of any description and for years travelled about Alberta with...

    The Winter Shed

Winter for sure...I would be nervous striking a match there in the summer. My firepit area needs a total rework. I made mine out of bricks and it just soaks up the heat instead of radiating.

    Freighter canoe moose scouting

My first gun was a Mossberg 195k 410 bolt action with that same screw choke. I shot a lot of rabbits with it. I have recently upgraded to a maverick youth model 20guage which I like quite a bit.

    Freighter canoe moose scouting

Fun times...I would be sorely tempted to just set up a grouse camp and spend a few days tented up. And yes canoes and guns seem to go together like peas and carrots.

How does a hogged canoe handle?

Depending on how stubborn you are....make a cradle that supports both ends and have a screw or hyd jack mounted in the center, with a plate for the football area. turn it over and paint the bottom black and leave it in the hottest sun you can manage for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

    Little Pic River

Epic trip but he does a lot of low percentage stuff when he gets frustrated. I dont understand the deodorant thing either Robin. I would not even attempt a trip like that without my chainsaw.

    Head stone markings ?

That is an outstanding idea to make little cedar strip canoes as urns. You put a brass plate on it and either release it or place it on a favourite route....you could even blow them up if desired.

How to Solo Lift a Canoe

Yes, that is what I do also. Karin actually made a sheet metal shoe to protect the bow of her very lovely Jacks Special. It gets a little trickier when you are using shorter boats but still doable.

    Late season on the Assiniboine

That is a bottle that Coors uses on this type of beer ...but yes it looks like a stubby from the old days. And it tasted like a free beer after a long paddle...you can picture it. I have this crazy idea to paddle the Assiniboine from start to finish...a more civilized trip that my family might...
