Photos of Portage / Canoe Carry Signs

I actually liked that about the BWCA. It gave the place more of a wilderness scavenger hunt vibe.

In the case of the past 2 trips, however, I doubt I'd find many those portages without the signs or flagging tape. There's simply not enough foot traffic to make them the open trails that you find in the BW or popular parks like Algonquin.
 
I ran across these yesterday at Oil Creek State Park. First time I'd seen a portage marker in PA

I guess I can see why they're so adamant about marking it... probably mess you up pretty bad if you went over

Oh, yeah, nevermind that sign on the right. nobody else was dumb enough to be on that snow-covered road so I thought it would be OK.

The Park Ranger says the flow is seasonal & best before the end of June. There is a short-line rail service that can provide shuttle back to the put-in. Might be a day paddle sometime this summer.
