Wood identification.

It looks like alder to me, but a clear board 22"x14' would be unusual from my experience. I used some for thwarts on a really light canoe build. It is much lighter weight than other hardwoods but heavier than cedar or spruce. Weigh a board and see where the density falls.

I think I'm still leaning toward some kind of mahogany due to the size of the stock. As I mentioned earlier, I have one piece that is 22 inches wide, 14 feet long, and not a knot in it. Might give it a whirl building a solo canoe if my contract is extended into the spring.
It would be hard to find a piece of alder that clear, mahogany is a good bet
