The Lows Lower Dam repair project has been taking longer than expected, has anyone heard when it might reopen. Weather forecasters predict a warmer than usual Fall. Would be nice to squeeze in a quick trip.

DEC Reminds Visitors of Lows Lower Dam Access Road Closure

Lows Lower Dam/Bog River Dam Access Road in Town of Piercefield, St. Lawrence County, Remains Closed for Dam Rehabilitation.

Construction activities are expected seven days per week and anticipated to continue through fall 2024. The project will bring the dam into compliance with New York State dam safety regulations.

Kind of mixed feelings on hearing this. I had actually hoped to get out there while the road was closed, and not nearly as busy:
“That parking lot has continually been the busiest parking lot in the Adirondacks for canoeing,Frenette said. “They have 40 to 70 cars there in the peak season just about every day.”

Actually was over that way mid September for that trip for that trip, however plans went awry in a few different ways. Still made it over there but Low's didn't work out; spent a few days on Little Tupper, a day trip to Boreas, and a couple other familiar day stops on the way home.

Counted over 100 cars one fine fall day.

I have gone into Lows for the opening week (rifle) of deer season quite a few times (last week of October) and saw few if any other paddlers. There might have been day paddlers but I didn’t see any on the western end of the lake.

I was lucky enough to paddle the area the second year it was open to the public, well before it became such a zoo. Wife and I spent 5 days there and only spotted 2 other boats.

I don't know when that was but IIRC, I was there when I was 17 at Scout camp, 1969. No recollection of where we paddled.
