It is National Dog Day. To celebrate, let's post pictures of our canoe dogs, present or past, in this thread. Many have done so in other threads already, but this thread will be a focused photo album dedicated to many a canoeist's best friend.

Although I have been a dog owner for almost my entire life, I unfortunately have no pictures of canoe dogs because I did not take any of them in canoes. But here's a picture of my last dog, Max, as I was leaving one January on 10-month-long canoe trip to Florida with my Lotus Caper open canoe, Surge sea kayak and Huki V1-B outrigger.



I know many of you have lots of pix of actual canoe dogs. Show 'em.

Boat dogs rule. I have had them swim rapids, so they all get lifejackets. They have chased bears out of camp many times. I really like boating with dogs.

Moose, the one and only time he’s been in a canoe. He really loves my wife and doesn’t like cars so I leave him home.

“Fizz”, cute but she’s a stone cold killer! Still going strong at 12 years, although we have to pamper her when she’s getting in and out of the boat. It’s definitely her last season working the uplands.

She unfortunately chased a car, caught it, passed it and cut right in front of it and the driver never saw her. Took me over a year to think about even getting another pup but I think I lucked out again and found a great tripping partner.

Sad news indeed, I’ve lost a couple of dogs to cars. Am paranoid about it happening when walking near traffic, teaching heel, and using a leash when on or near the road. Big ten acre fenced in area keeps them happy with room to not feel confined and keeps strays from visiting.
My condolences, I could tell from your posts that you and your critter had a close bond. Life without a dog isn’t a very complete life.

Went out paddling with some kayak friends today and it was the first time we had our dog in a canoe since we adopted him. He did real well.






His real love is walks in the woods no mater the weather.

Uba helped hold down the front of my canoe for about 10 years. She loved the water and retrieving things.

In this picture she doesn't care that it's cold. She doesn't care that it's raining. She wants to know why we haven't seen her favorite bird, a cormorant.

Pete the Dog's enthusiasm for any outdoor adventure was infectious. As a water-loving Spring Spaniel, his favorite activity was being on the water in our canoe. Sadly, he is no longer with us.

My best friend Logan, this amazing guy will walk around puddles to avoid getting wet but absolutely loves being on the water while he is being chauffeured from lake to lake
