Been lurking for a bit and have enjoyed all the info and knowledge shared!
Retired (2021), wife and I went full time RVing but recently bought a home in upstate SC to have a "home base". Spent the past 3 years traveling the US in our 5th wheel.
Looking to get a 15'-16' canoe by Aug to do some solo and couple camping /tripping this fall. Had canoes in the past and currently have 2 Jackson Ibis kayaks that we do not use much anymore. Want to get back into canoeing!
We have an outfitter in Greenville, SC that carries Esquif and Northstar so hope to get some test paddling lined up in different models.
Appreciate the knowledge and info here.

Welcome to the Forum from another Upstate paddler!

I give a thumbs up to Sunrift (the Esquif and Northstar dealer around here); I ordered a Northstar Phoenix from them last fall, had surprisingly quick canoe delivery and met some good folk there. I've been dealing with them since the '90s.

We have a fair collection of paddlers in this area considering how far we are from "canoe country" and everything from swamp paddling to whitewater as daytrips along with overnighters on lakes and rivers. It is a great place to be.

Subvet, welcome to site membership! Feel free to ask any questions and to post messages, photos and videos, and to start threads, in our many forums. Please read Welcome to CanoeTripping and Site Rules! Also, please add your location to the Account Details page in your profile, which will cause it to show under your avatar, as this is a geographic sport. Many of the site's technical features are explained in Features: Help and How-To Running Thread. We look forward to your participation in our canoe community.

Welcome. I still need to get down there for a couple of paddles. Congaree Nat'l Park & Sparkleberry Swamp top the bucket list.

As for canoe selection, many here are happy to help spend your money and, if you're up for a road trip, grab the tent & head up to the WPASCR this weekend. Lots of solo canoes to try out.

Thanks! Heard nothing but good things about Sunrift. We live about 2 miles from Keowee river so easy access to Keowee. Planning an overnight to Jocassee and Fontana in the fall. I fly fish so great area for that as well as north Georgia and NC are a stones throw away.

Greetings from Pinnacle, NC. We had a tall 36' fifth wheel camper years ago back when we had a farm in Upstate NY and it made taking a canoes or our big sea kayaks a two trip or two vehicle affair. We sold the fifth wheel when the youngest kids got to an age where they'd rather spend a vacation backpacking or kayak/canoe touring in the Adirondacks than stay in a campground.

After several years without a camper we got bought one in 2019 and have since upgraded the camper to a larger "couples camper" (no bunks and lots of living space). One of the reasons we stuck to a big SUV (an Expedition EL) and a travel trailer is that it's easy to haul a canoe along when towing the camper.

I'm guessing from your "handle" that you're a vet. If so, thank you for your service.

Lance

Thank you, it was a pleasure to serve our country (US Submarine Service 1979-1986).
We started tent camping when our kids were young then it progressed..... Pop up, travel trailer now a 36' 5th wheel as well. Our kids are married and have families now!
We sold our 10 acre farm in East TN when we retired and hit the road! Did the whole western US and spent from last May till Nov in Maine then back to SC for the winter and bought a home in Jan. Great being full time RV'er but after 3 years, it's good to have a home we can travel from now!
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!
Gary

I can also recommend Sunrift, having bought a boat from them several years ago as my reintroduction to paddling. And I can also recommend Congaree National Park for a day trip if you're down that way (keep an eye on the water levels [https://www.nps.gov/cong/planyourvisit/canoe-trail-conditions.htm]) and would add the Congaree River Blue trail (http://www.bluetrailsguide.org/rivers/congaree/) as an easy overnight. There are also two other blue trails in SC, on the Waccamaw River and the Wateree River.
