YEEEEEEHAAAAAAAA!

Not sure why this is a cause for celebration
Fines and jail time will still be there
In Maine canoeing 🛶 OUI gets you a couple thousand bucks fine and jail time for the first offense

Just let me know the next time you need a DD for that sweet little square stern.

I sort of got the impression that drinking and canoeing aren't mutually exclusive activities much of the time. Here's a comment on float trips down the Buffalo:

A tip for potential floaters- It is so much more pleasant if you do it on a day other than Saturday. On Saturdays, the rivers are so packed full of people that you can’t hardly move at your own pace, and a majority of them are quite obnoxiously drunk.

This from https://brennaabroad.com/trip-reports/buffalo-river/

Actually I wouldn't mind seeing Brenna drinking and camping, from some of those bikini photos she posted. Nope, not gonna post that cheesecake here, back to serious business looking at maps.

Just saw this on Chicago news today. It seems logical and smart to unhitch the offense from driving privileges.
I like a drink as much as the next guy, but being drunk on the water can get dangerous for you and others. That said, I have seen a lot of drunks on rivers.....including two Hoosiers who had mounted a clay thrower on the bow of their skiff. I got out of their AO as fast as I could!

Never understood how driving privileges can be tied to anything but driving. Not gonna run my 3000 pound canoe into a car full of nuns, killing them all.
