Not exactly sure where to put this, but it was winter and we were camping, so I’ll put it here.
Last year I got together with some other members of our local club (RICKA) to do a year-end, overnight camping trip the last weekend in December. We had five campers on that trip and had a great time, so we decided to do it again this year.
This year we had nine campers, all decked out for winter camping, including a group of three with a stove in a hot tent. Instead of the snow and ice that you would expect in winter, we had rain and mud - steady drizzle with temperatures in the 40’s during the day and 30’s at night.
It was still a good time. It is a short 3-mile paddle up to the campsite. We set up camp in the rain and settled in around the fire. Food was good and abundant. Tall tales around the campfire were fun and entertaining. Rain kept us soggy, but it didn’t dampen any spirits. My tent was dry and my sleeping bag was warm – all was good.
I forgot what a pain it is to pack up camp in the rain. I just threw everything in the bag and figured I’d deal with it when I got home – what a mess. I really would have been in trouble if I had to set it back up again on another site in the rain.

We'll try again next year - maybe we will actually get some winter weather.
