Working on replacing gunnels on a Mad River Tandem.I know a lot of builders are either about to take their hulls off the forms, or just need a set of stands to work on gunnels !

Here are two styles of stands, I've been using.

They both are easy to make, and store, when not in use.

I won't go into too much detail. as you can see how easy it is to make them.

The tall one solves the issue of Varnishing gunnels, in my case WATCO. Supporting the hull High, and not contacting the gunnels, I'm able to keep the Watco, from running down the sides of the hull, during application.

Pad the tops, and really snug the 1/4" pivot bolt, so the stand doesn't slip. A strap would work, I just didn't have one at the time.

Here's some pics ! I hope this will help !

I work outside, so recently I cut some old tipi poles to size and buried 4 of them in the ground. I added some cross pieces with screws about a foot below the top of the poles. Then I nailed an old piece of 1 1/2 inch webbing across the top. It holds a canoe in place. I am tall so I made the rack really tall, about chest height. It is really stable.
