Just ended up with a new project and wondered if any of you guys can help me identify it. I can't find any writing or numbers on it anywhere.

I certainly don't have a clue... But reading the forum for a while the first question will be what are the dimensions.

Interesting project you've got yourself there!

Likely a Thompson Canoe. They did the half ribs in the floor that way. Post at the WCHA for more info.

It's approximately 17 x34x12, and yes, I'm thinking a Thompson. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction!

Looks like a Thompson. I have that 16' in the classified with the same half ribs and stringer, but different seats. They have nice high stems.

" I would rather be tripping "

No you wouldnt...you would rather be buying and selling canoes.

No Title

Almost looks more like fiberglass than canvas, but it peeled of easily. This may be a stupid question, but what kind of canvas will I need, is it special for canoes, or is it just canvas cloth?

If you have wood canvas canoe builder in your area (check at WCHA.org) you can buy it from him/her. Just tell them what you have to canvas and they will sell you the correct weight (probably #10). You can mix your own filler from the recipe in this book. You would do well to buy the book as he does a wonderful job of explaining how to restore a wood canvas canoe.

I just buy 10 oz cotton duck by the roll from a fabric store....you will only need about 24 ft, or like 8 yards. You need to have extra on each end eh. It is a process but totally doable. Filler...wellllllll that is an art all to itself. Everybody has their own recipe, including us..lol.

Get it, Mihun- its great!

Only two complaints, Mike- if you're listening...
1. The binding- ring backed would be easier to keep open in the shop, and
2. I miss the colour photos.

Terrific source of practical and useful "how to" information, as well as dispelling a number of myths regarding Shellac, varnishes, paint, etc.

Good read too!

Just got mine today. Lots and lots of pictures and broken up by sections that make information easy to find

Almost done, I'm on time for spring!
