What can you tell me...

Not a thing but I applaud small scale canoe makers. Dave Curtis and Harold Deal at Hemlock Canoe or John Kazimerczyk of Millbrook boats probably can . Some of those boats look a lot like Harold's Shaman.. Not saying the designs were "stolen" but oftentimes there is an inspiration.

Dang those shouldered tumblehomes are so Hemlock! But its carried on way fore and aft.

Those are not Royalex.. Composite! I see Steve Scarborough had a hand in them.. Its a small world in canoe design. For sure Harold knows Steve

Ok these are composites boats, of the classic Ocoee and Caption once made out of RX by Dagger, design by Franky Hubbards(Ocoee) and Steve Scarborough(Caption). Those designs are at least from the 80's(mid 90's read below) and some of the most popular ones, Especially the Ocoee!

I sent them a message to have more info, and I also contacted Kaz to see what he has to say!

Echo paddles out of Ontario makes(Composites Creation actually make the boat for him) the Ocoee and the Starburst in composites!!

I had not heard of this maker before.

The Ocoee and the Caption were actually mid-1990s boats, both introduced by Dagger in 1994, I believe. The Ocoee was the product of an evolution that began with Frankie Hubbard's "Edge" (which was made in various sizes), which was the inspiration for the Vipers, which eventually morphed into the Ocoee. After Dagger got out of the canoe business, Bell molded the Ocoee, and later Nova Craft, until the demise of Royalex. Mad River molded the Caption, likewise till the demise of Roylalex.

Nova Craft also makes a composite Ocoee in their TuffStuff layup. This is the first I have heard of a composite version of the Caption.
