Hi, new friends!
My big trip this year was to the Chiniguchi/Sturgeon River region of Temagami. Rather than copying/pasting/ruining the HOURS and HOURS of formatting I've put into this trip report, I invite you to click the link below and read all about my wonderful adventure. So many photos! So many bad jokes! Far too many words!
Cheers,
Tierney

Re-read your adventurous report again. Funny! Hoping you'll be able to get a few more short trips in before this season's done.

By the way, noticed your Eureka VCS 13 tarp made your cut for best gear. Do you guys have the attachable mesh bug net part? Didn't see it in any of your pics. It's a bit bulky to pack but makes a huge difference if the bugs are bad, particularly for black fly season in the spring.

Thanks, Mama, glad you liked it.

Hey Murat V, thanks again for telling me about this forum! And yeah, we do have the mesh enclosure for our Eureka VCS 13. We carried it the whole two weeks and didn't set it up once. The mosquitoes were only really terrible on Gawagomong Lake on Day 9, and by that point we were too tired to care. We used it in Algonquin in July, and it worked well, but I think we need to configure our tarp differently to attach the mesh because it was a bit saggy in places. Before we bought the mesh enclosure this year we had a $40 pop-up mesh tent I ordered off of eBay from South Korea, and quite frankly, I preferred the SpeedTent. Unfortunately it broke when we tried to fold it down in May as we couldn't remember how or understand the South Korean instructions/YouTube video. Bummer.

If you haven't seen it yet, check out PineMartyn's youtube vid about his setup technique. He has the larger VCS16 but his setup video really shows how to pitch it pretty well.

He's a member on these forums too I believe.

PERFECT, thanks Murat V. I'm interested in getting a CCS tarp for next year, too, after reading HOOP's Tarpology thread on myccr. I find the parawing shape a little bit confining. Andrew and I are such gear nerds.

love this part of the world - was up last year, this year a little more east behind obabika...

Yeah, the CCS tarp has a great reputation. Not sure if he still does this, but Harlan of Red Lake Outfitters used to sell off some used, top-quality gear at the end of the tripping season. A few years back I got a mint condition 10x10 CCS tarp (yellow) that was gently used for a single season. Price was great and the tarp had been seam sealed & ready for use. Plus I picked it up in Toronto when he was in town for the Outdoor Adventure Show so no added shipping cost. With our dollar tanking at the moment, it might save you a few bucks...so you can spend it on more gear!

tump_lion: I love it up there, too. It was our first trip to the area, and now I want to check out more of the region. So beautiful.

Murat V: Cool, thanks. I'll look into that.

memaquay: What's a canoe trip without whiskey, am I right?!

Bothwell Voyageur: Was it "brume", perchance? lololol
that one I could look up on Google. It was a few of the others that would have got me a slap on the legs by my mom if I had used them in her presence! Plus I made the mistake of clicking on Frank. For a few seconds I thought the emergency warning lights were going to sound. Last time I do that at work!

It was a really funny write up though!

Whoops, didn't realize hot babes covered in coffee scrub would cause such a stir..

Lol, that certainly got my attention. Took me a while to find the reference. I try to bring coffee to my wife most mornings, if that's how she wanted it, I'd be happy to deliver!

You should get some for your wife! I'm obsessed with this stuff. It costs less than twenty bucks. It's good for eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, cellulite, stretch marks... There's seriously nothing like it. The marketing with hot babes is just a bonus :p

Odyssey: Bahahahaha! Espresso love's alright!
