Upon entering my 'boathouse' (former chicken coop) I found that one of my canoes ('Old Yeller') had fallen from it trapeze storage to the ground. Luckily, a wheelbarrow broke its fall. No damage that I could find among the usual canoe country scratches. Closer inspection of the rope revealed that a mouse had chewed through it. I replaced the rope, sprayed it with 'bitter yuck' which is supposed to discourage pets from chewing on things, and went to have a talk with my cat.

When I was researching hanging methods ... it was suggested to use light chain to avoid that issue. I have never had any issues or worries knowing that steel beats teeth almost every time.

Too many years ago, my favorite 17 foot stripper slipped out of its trapeze in the garage, but only one end.
As luck would have it, it landed on the gear shift knob for the Ariens snowblower underneath it. Punched a pretty little crescent shaped slice in the outer glass, other than that, it survived just fine.

Certainly a high quality set up............

I went low tech, and have had no issues; either in my garage, or in my "loafer's shed" where our canoes are stored.
In the winter, I put out a package of mouse poison in the loafer shed.
I've never put anything in the garage because of cats we've had/have.
Maybe they were/are providing mouse control?

The only thing I purchased for canoe cradles was I bolts.
Wood for the cradles, and wall racks is scrap lumber from home site burn plies.
Cradle hangers are retired, NRS straps.
