I was in a Wal-mart in rural NC last week. Or more appropriately Small-Mart; it was definitely not the mega-store version.

And there, in sporting goods, was one of those tall wire racks, the kind filled with cheap bouncy balls you once begged your mom to buy.

Only this one was filled with cheap plastic stand up paddle boards. I think the shark has been officially jumped.

On the whole I think I’d be happier in this.

Not sure about those paddles though.

When I was about 14 or 15, I took sailing lessons on the local tidal river. The folks giving the lessons only had two Sunfish dinghies and there were six of us in the class. Two kids per boat meant that there was some downtime to fill. One of the other boys found a large piece of styrofoam - about the size of a really thick sofa cushion, and tried to stand on it in the water. Somebody soon found a long stick, and before you know it, we're having a little poling competition. A couple of us got good enough to pole the thing across the little cove by the dock - and then our wait time didn't seem so long.

Point is - we were having fun. Face it. It doesn't take much to make some fun on the water.

If it floats ? It's fun !!!
If I ever find the one pic I took of my first boat, I'm posting it ! It was such a piece of crap, but the fun I had with it, has given me some great memories. I smile every time I think of it !
