I have a roll of cane material I got for free but I need the spline. Is it best to replace it like origianal or is there another option? Can I get the spline material at a craft store or will I need to go through a canoe specific specialty store?

You might find it in a craft store, I never looked. Last time I bought some I got it from Lee Valley Tools, you can find it on their website. It comes in three widths, so you need to know the width of the groove and the mesh thickness of the cane.

Thanks for the info. Since I didn't know the size I called Ed's canoe and they were able to help me. The size is 7.5 and they have a kit which includes spline, glue, wedges, and cane. The kit is $15.95 and the order taker said they could throw in enough spline for a second seat since I already have the cane. Very easy and they will ship today.
