Does anyone know if permits for provincial parks are being issued to yanks? I saw there are border restrictions, but thought there might be latitude for backcountry visitors.
Nope, it appears that is considered "non-essential" travel and border crossing still prohibited. At least that's what's on the reservation site. Dang, I guess it's BWCA again.
Obviously everything is still very fluid but from everything I have been hearing is that Americans shouldn't plan on paddling in Canada anytime this year.
My guess is that the border MIGHT open up by September.
Keep in mind, you can fly into Canada these days, it's the land border that is (more) closed. You need extra time for the required quarantine period and you would have to rent locally or have all your gear shipped by truck across the border. Another minor issue, I think as of last week you can only enter through Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver airports.
There is a questionnaire link at the bottom of the page you can take to determine eligibility, it took me several tries to find the combination of factors that would make entering possible.
FYI - If you are truthful (coming to Canada where I don't know anyone for a canoe trip) you won't get in!
On the other hand if you can come up with a "life partner" residing in Canada you are probably good to go!
