I took my mother paddling today at Pillsbury SP, NH

Started at the Dam and paddled and carried up to the inlet on North Pond

Windmill in Lempster.

And of course there was the monitory stop for 'out-of-staters' to the NH Liquor Store where I did find a little something special for next week.

Good for the both of you !

I could not get my Mom into a canoe.

Bless you.

Sweeper - My mom is also 92 but she still enjoys paddling. It's great to see you out with your Mom. Just curious, as I don't know this location, are there backcountry campsites available? I'm looking for a place to take my grandson next summer and this may be closer to where he lives in MA than traveling back to the Adirondacks.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

That trip looks like a good deal for both of you...nice!

If I might relate my own, 'mom in a boat, story?

About 15 years back, took mom out to lunch at a lakeside restaurant, Bass Lake CA, w stunning views of the high Sierra outside of nearby Yosemite NP. So 'we decided' after lunch to rent a canoe, rowboat, paddle boat...she was amenable and interested...no time like the present.

Only after all the paperwork was done, boat pulled down to water's edge, life jackets on, belongs stowed in car, new sunglass straps, hats and sunblock against the intense sun...rowing for less than 5 minutes... a spiffy motorized pontoon boat goes by sedately, the passengers all looking quite content...comfy and self-satisfied.

My mom turns to me and says with some envy but no malice, 'why didn't your rent one of those?!'... we could have zipped around some!"

(It's funnier now than it was then, but I do believe it became a favorite story of my fathers...)

Sadly, we never did get back on the water but found a decent restaurant we enjoyed several more times that had great views, decent food and bald eagles to watch.

I think you miss a lot in a power boat, even with a motor on a canoe, if only the sounds from the woods

Thanks for sharing southcove.

I was there a couple weeks ago we paddle the first pond then paddle back to the put in and put the canoe on the second pond then did the portage trail to the third pond. they say you get there early enough in the morning you can see moose on the third pond nice Sunday paddle. they also have signs no swimming leeches

I too am a fan of Pillsbury State Park. Neat little place. I like that it is somewhat rustic, with non-electric sites and spot-a-pots instead of palatial bath houses. Helps keep the fancy folk away.

I’ve been there a couple of times, once staying on (IRRC) an island site on one of the ponds.

You're an awesome son. I hope my daughter takes me out paddling when I'm older. Nice pictures, thank you for sharing.

There are paddle-in sites, but to be clear the ponds are pretty small. The largest, May Pond, is only 152 acres and the “paddle in” to the island site I stayed on was only a five minute trip.

You could certainly paddle-camp at one of those sites and spend time exploring the three main ponds, depending on how adventurous a trip you want to plan with the grandson.
