I have in the past always bought epoxy from brick & mortar stores; either West Marine (ca-ching $) or from Blue Mountain Outfitters (less ca-ching, but an hour+ away, and I never get out without another $100 in parts and pieces)

West Marine is a gawd awful sucky cross metro drive, and BMO will cost me an extra $100 in stuff I didn’t know I needed, more if I visit the paddle racks.

I ordered some West 105 & 206 from Jamestown Distributors, but by the time ORM-D haz mat and shipping charges were added didn’t save anything except the cost of the drive.

I ordered West System mostly because I already have extra pumps and have worked with it for years. And I know I can mix it with G/flex in any ratio.

But everything I hear about Raka makes me want to give it a try. I can make room on the epoxy shelf for two more cans.

So, a 2-part on-line ordering question:

Best/least expensive (cost+shipping+ORM-D) source for West System (105/206)?

Best/least expensive (cost+shipping+ORM-D) source for Raka?

Mike,
Here is my latest order from RAKA, early March
Not sure of the shipping, but you can easily back it out from their prices online
I don't think there are any special shipping fees for hazmat, epoxy resin is pretty benign.

The West System epoxy ships with an ORM-D designation, defined as:
“ORM-D is a marking for mail or shipping in the United States that identifies other regulated materials for domestic transport only. Packages bearing this mark contain hazardous material in a limited quantity that presents a limited hazard during transportation, due to its form, quantity, and packaging”.

Jamestown charges a flat $4.99 haz-mat/ORM-D fee no matter the quantity, and the ORM-D fee applies only to the hardener, not to the resin.

BTW, Hillary at Jamestown deserves the 2017 Award for patience in sales. This was the third time I have ordered stuff from Jamestown. The second time they mysteriously had no record of me. This time Hillary looked under every possible search term, name, address, e-mail, zip code, even the items I had ordered in the past.

She declared that I was a ghost on the web and we had a wonderful funny conversation while she searched. That playful banter with her was a highlight of my day.

I agree Hillary is top notch, and a very accomplished varnisher.

Jim, small world.

If you ever see or speak with Hillary please give her my regards. She was great fun to converse with, and that pleasant conversation assured that I will order from Jamestown again.

There are a couple of companies that are blessed with extraordinary contact folk. Lynne at Clipper, take a bow. Alison at Wenonah, always a pleasure. Hillary at Jamestown, I’ll be ordering again someday.

Hmmmm, I need to e-mail the folks at Jamestown some Hillary kudos.

Raka is a house brand. As far as I know there's only one place to buy it and that's at Raka.com

Another vote for Raka... they are only a 100 miles or so from me and I like spending my money close to the neighborhood when ever possible, but they rarely fail to turnaround my orders the same day and packed superbly. Been using their blush free hardener here in 90% humidity, zero blushing....
