Today I nabbed this Old Town Acadia for a steal. 15', royalex, bow and stern stems well-repaired with G Flex by the previous owner. The serial number indicates a 1984 hull. I figure I'll put some work into it; kevlar skid plates, swap the thwart for a yoke, swap the seats, and give it a good polishing.

Can anybody school me on the history of these? I haven't found much online except that they were sold as kit boats to be assembled by the buyer.

Thanks for any input!

I had a 1982 for a while, decent enough RX tandem. Replaced the plastic seats with webbed as well. Specs below. I do recall reading somewhere that some folks used the Acadia for white water boats, given the added depth and thick hull.

I always thought it odd that my Acadia and the image in the 83 catalogue had the black vinyl gunnels, decks and floatation seats while the other Royalex models those years had the white vinyl trim. Eventually OT would phase out the white trim entirely. Even though the previous owner had stored it indoors its entire life, the black plastic seats on my Acadia were fraught with cracks, I'm guessing your seats are as well.
