Got back from our 11 days, 350 km river trip, but with no moose( I'm going for a real hunting trip on the third of sep). The trip was nice even if the weather wasn't the best, only 2 days of real hot weather so we could swim!! We didn't see any moose, or bears or caribou, but saw lots of king salmon and birds of all kinds, lots of eagles, lots of ducks and geese, lots of other bids of prey and king fishers... But no Moose!!

The trip started on Quite lake, about 110 km up the south Canol rd south of Whitehorse!! Quite lake goes into Sandy Lake via a short stream, then on to Big Salmon Lake via an the section of slow moving river. The first night we camped at the end of Quite lake on a gravel beach after a late start and a long drive. The second night was on a really nice sandy beach at the beginning of Big Salmon lake. I tried hard to find lake trouts with my fly rod, w/o success even if at some point they were jumping all around our canoe... Ho well maybe next time!

We started on the river it self the next day and paddled on it for the next 7 days. We usually don't cover much distance since we travel with lots of kids and the start in the morning is slow, the lunch stop long and the end of the day early.... But we have lots of fun and the kids to!!

The big salmon have its challenge, not a ww river per say but there is a few mild rapids with sanding waves and some rocks and tight passages to negotiate. You just need to be awake!

The big salmon goes into the Yukon river at Big Salmon village and then the rest of the trip is like last year 2 other trip!!

At the end of our trip, when we reach our destination, my daughter alway carve a small basic little boat that she let go into the water just before we get to the take out, so our journey keeps on going!!!

As usual, the pictures are not in order and I don't know why?!?!?
Robin P.s. If there is to many pictures, let me know and I will remove them and put the link to my Facebook page for viewing.

Looked like a great trip, by the great pics ! 11 days is a long time to keep kids entertained.

 Thanks for sharing !

Wow, what great pics, a big thumbs up for doing such a great job with the kids. The scenery is outstanding, the eats look great, that Shepard's pie looks like it was a big success.

Lucky kids to have such great mentors, taking advantage of such beautiful country.

Good Luck with your Sept moose hunt, Thanks for sharing your trip.

Makes me want to go back to the Yukon.
We might do that next summer.

Are there shuttle services and boat rental for the Big Salmon. Im not sure bringing our Souris River Wilderness 18 in Kevlar is wise
When we did the Teslin/Yukon we could get canoe rental and shuttle from Kanoe People

Im guessing you did not paddle far each day, or is the Big Salmon much slower than the Yukon?

Ooohhh boy. That is an awesome looking trip.I should have been doing all that years ago.

Thank you Robin, we had 2 pâté chinois(shepard's pie) on that trip, one made from fresh ingredient(moose meat), and the other from dehydrated ingredient we prep at home, we dehydrated the ingredient separately and rehydrated them in camp and then made the shepard's pie as we would at home! It was delicious, not quite the same as the made fresh one, but really good!!

Looks like a successful group trip! The kids look like they had a blast. Lovely scenery, too.

Looks like cooking for that crew was a bit of a project. Those of us who are trying to get our cooking gear to fit in the same pack with everything else could maybe learn from this as a counterpoint? Speaking of which, what were you cooking directly on the grate? Wasn't sure if that was meat, or a dough/bannock variant.

Liking the variety of paddles represented. Seems there's something for every taste. And the "Extra special wind powered paddle" was that a tent fly?

The stuff on the grate is naan bread made from scratch. As for the sail it's only a tarp. We always carry large golf umbrella on trips to use as sail and it is amazing how good they work!! And have other uses to shading when super hot and sunny or a place to get change in case of heavy rain....
