Has anybody on this site travelled through the pine barrens and can recommend a good day trip? I'm in Ocean City for the week and looking for a good trip or two that my brother and I can take. I guess it could be anywhere around Ocean City. Thanks in advance!

I was in the pine barrens in the beginning of July for the first time. We put in on the Mullica river at Rt.206 by Atsion St. park and paddled downstream to the Campground. We encountered numerous downed trees and very narrow parts of the river. It took about 3 to 3.5 hours to make it the 3.5 miles to the campground, which we stayed overnight. It took about 2 hours to make it downstream to the takeout at Quaker bridge and our shuttle vehicle. The river is a bit wider below the campground and you could probably paddle upstream to the campground in the same time as downstream from 206. The Mullica is supposed to have more consistent water levels of all the Pine Barren rivers. We did have an interesting time to say the least. Next time I think we will just paddle upstream to the campground. I think that the best scenery is just upstream of the campground a mile or so.
I had paddled upstream towards the campground from Quaker bridge the week before, and was thrown around by the currents a lot. I have no rocker on my boat and couldn't turn into the current very well. It was a lot of fun going from shore to shore.
I heard that the Batsto river is less twisty, I have not paddled that one yet. There is also a put in for Batsto lake, just west of Batsto village.
There is a nice trip on the tidal portion of the Mullica right near Batso village and there are several other put ins on these rivers and lakes which can be found on www.paddling.net., click on "go paddling" and then "launch sites map".
Do you have your own boat? There are some liverys in the area and I also saw some tubers on the river as well.
