Hi guys,

Not sure this has been posted before but just came across this video for the new swift cruiser 17’ 8” prototype …David Yost shares some design insights, most notably that the boat is 2.5” narrower than the cruiser 16 8….anyway just thought some might be interested.

Moonman.

Thanks for that video, Moonman. Two high performance paddlers say the Cruiser 17.8 will be a great racing canoe as well as a seaworthy one, unlike many marathon canoes. If I had to do one thing over, I would have spent more time exploring flat water racing when I was young.

All the things that guy says about why he has a rudder on his 16.8 would also apply to a retractable skeg and why I proposed it as a possible option on canoes, like it is on kayaks.

I think the question would be where to house the retracted skeg - I suppose it could fit into the float tanks, but otherwise it would obviously protrude into the usable space within the boat. Still, I could see where this would be a nice addition, especially to a fast and straight-paddling boat like the Cruisers or Magic...
