What? Not funny.. I hope you are not ill.. I have to give up lots of canoe stuff too as my tripping and portaging days are probably done due to cancer but I have been told not to be hasty.

Wishing you well and hoping this is some sort of joke. Being in chemo it strikes me that I don't want more company in that in the canoe world. I just lost a canoe partner to cancer and am losing another.

haha, I got some of you and some of you took it to heart which was touching. I'm not ready to give up yet.

Hope you all find April warmer and more canoe friendly than March. See you on the water.

Red I hope you are never faced with a terminal illness. Then you would read your thread with a more sensitive eye

I am done with this site

I will give up some of my equipment when I am too old to use it. Some of it I will always hang on to because it brings back all of the memories.

hey, me too!! I'll gladly send this "kit" stripper to anyone wishing to have it. It is conveniently knocked down into easily shipped components.
There may be a few sections missing...

I think it's understandable that everyone reads something a little differently into a post sometimes. I imagined Red was fed up with winter (is it over up there yet?), and resigned himself to a long drawn out winter. I'm sorry you're just yanking our chains Red. Are you sure you won't part with just one teeny weenie item? Like the Tremblay? Anyway, I am glad you're ready for spring. It can't come a moment too soon.
Just to kick start spring, I opened a bottle of Beau's All Natural Beaver River Strong Beer, Seasonal Spring Batch.

I've made a toast to springtime, and all who welcome her arrival. Happy paddling Red.

Brad, we have a second 15 foot Tremblay in the shop that will be ready in June, very likely the same colour as Red's when it is done. We could just bring it with us in August. Start saving your pennies.

I gotta ask what the story was with that. And admit that I’d have kept the pieces and used them for something. Matryoshka Doll Canoe maybe.

On a somber note, I have designated specific boats to different people in my will. All of the family favorites will remain, but I know of good and much-to-be-used homes for others.

Good idea!= you're onto something.
We gave a tandem kayak we fixed up from a yard sale to a friend in need. Felt great. We also have a 13' Grumman that's an old whale of a thing that I cherish and will keep until I fall apart at the seams.

Mike,

That was my old faithful 17 ft tandem, a sweetheart of a boat. That's the one that was pinned and crushed on Round Lake Stream in the spring of 2012.
That was my last remaining polyester boat, built in 1984. It was having trouble hanging on to its glass anyway, many, many patches through the years.
Just before Christmas of 2012, I cut up the old hull to dispose of it, keeping only a section of the bow (for what I don't know?!), the old portage yoke, and a few pieces of hull with gunnels attached. Those pieces became Christmas present picture frames for all that were on that trip, with photos that meant something special to each participant. There was virtually nothing left of the boat, barely got it home on the roof racks. Sometimes it's better to make a complete farewell, and remember to good times...That's how I want to be remembered, for what I've done, not what I've become (I'm assuming I have another 20 or 30 years to go).

Here's what became of that faithful servant. BTW, those gifts have since become everyone's most cherished mementos...
