Is the HIN sensitive information

Is it safe to post the HIN? I see on many forms people blur out serial numbers. I’ve never really understood why.

I don't see any reason not to post it.

People blur out license plates of their car when they sell it too but that's hardly private information.

Only reason I can see to blur it out is if someone is selling it and it's stolen. Would prevent you from checking it against the stolen database.
