Sitting on the deck at home in the sunlight the temperature read 49 F. The lake beckoned.. Went down to shore launched the boat and was off to find where the loons and eagles might be and to check on the beavers. I scared a little bufflehead before I could get a picture.. heard lots of birds.. and it was cold on the water as ice out was a few days ago. There was enough of a breeze to remind me that it was not 49 on the water. We poked around just a little and after about 90 minutes were preparing to get out. I sank the boat getting out and also half of me. Threw the boat on shore and ran for the house to get out of wet clothes and make hot chocolate.
I have no idea what those tubery looking things are . anyone have any ideas?

Looks like fun, we never had much of an 'Ice In' this year.

They might be Water Lily tubers.

Thanks for sharing those pics. We're all getting antsy to get out there. That's quite a fantastic back yard you have there. Someday...

You're killing me here woman!! I went out to the lake just north of us and it is all still frozen over. I may have to fill the bathtub up and paddle in my mind. ( that's a big empty space, should be like wilderness ). We are apparently due for 4 days of rain, which is ok cuz you can pump water, instead of having to shovel it.
It has not gotten super hot here in a few years so I agree with what you said referrence temps.

Everything here is either too much or too little ...mostly too much.
