Especially re our paddlers in the American south and Texas . . . Where are the hurricanes this season?

"Outlooks for the 2024 hurricane season were dire, and its unprecedented early start with Category 5 Hurricane Beryl raised greater concern that those forecasts would verify. And then . . . No named storms have formed since Aug. 12. Not since 1968 has there been a stretch this long with no hurricane formations between August and September . . . ."

Please don't jinx it. 🤞

Today is the climatological peak of hurricane season. The good news is that hurricanes are less likely every day from here on out. The bad news is that we're only halfway through the season. There is still plenty of time for damaging hurricanes to hit.

Also, there's Francine out there now.

Here in the piedmont it has been really dry the last few weeks. We need the rain these storms bring. Obviously would prefer smaller storms rather than hurricanes.

I keep my head down and eyes closed until a hurricane warning is issued. Then I put up the plywood shutters, hunker down and pray.
