Happy Thanksgiving, for us it's a great day with our kids and grandkids, I hope it's good for you also.

Happy Thanksgiving. Hope everyone is enjoying the good things in life.

Turkeys were reintroduced to our region over a decade ago, and they've done well. It's not unusual to see them off in the fields or beside the country road as you motor by. The other day on my way to work I was slowly cruising into a small town well inside the town limits, when I passed a car lot. I admired the reconditioned vehicles lined up and ready for new owners...'04 Ford pickup (not bad but a little rusty), '98 Dodge pickup (seen better days), old Buick (look at all that chrome!), big old Ford LTD (didn't my buddy Jeff drive one of those? those were fun 'ol days), newer Chev pickup, turkey, older Chev WHAT?! I stopped and backed up (the town still hadn't rolled out the sidewalks at that time of morning). Yup. A wild turkey was standing between the cars only feet from the road. It was a big tom; calmly looking over the car hoods with his head stretched out. I wondered what it would take to put him into one of these fine automobiles.

Turkey day... why are they so elusive to hunters? Do they know when they are in season? Like my dog, can they tell time? None of these are on my table! Its going to be fun again watching them in the road this winter. When the snowbanks get high, they just mill around like a headless committee.

Happy Thanksgiving to my interweb family.

Ya Kim, I don't know what the deal is either with turkeys. We have allot of them around in Iowa. It seems as though you are almost tripping over them. But come hunting season they seem to wise up in a hurry.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends south of the border. I absolutely love turkey, I wish we had the wild ones this far north. Anyone ever eat wild turkey? I'd like to know what it tastes like.

Several years ago my folks cooked one. IIRC it was all dark meat. It tasted fine and didn't seem tough or anything.

The breast meat is very good on wild turkeys. It tastes like dark meat. The legs aren't as good though. Too dark.

Mmm, an all-dark meat turkey sounds perfect for me. I hate dry white turkey breast. Gimme the greasy legs and I'm happy. Should have nabbed that turkey when I had the chance.

To ward off the tryptophan, I made a quick lap around the pond in the Loon chasing geese...
Now it's time to pack for a Colorado ski trip.
I wonder if the water will be hard when we get back?
Happy Thanksgiving!
Mike

Drove by a flock of turkeys this morning, maybe 15 or so. I see them all the time around here. Not being a fan of turkey we had lobster and haddock for Thanksgiving! Hope you had a great day!
