I'm new here. Stumbled upon this website after looking for more places and information on Canoe Tripping. I'm hoping to contribute some trip reports when I start getting out this spring.

Welcome, looking forward to seeing your trip reports, always like dreaming of finding somewhere new to go.

Welcome to you from the central lakes area of Minnesota. Two years ago we took a kayak trip from Big Bay to a Grand Marais following the Hiawatha Water a Trail. We fell in love with the U.P. It has much beauty and many recreational opportunities. We met Bill at Big Bay Outfitters and he was very helpful in shuttling us back to the start at Big Bay. Again, welcome and enjoy the spring.

Bill is a great guy and runs such a great paddle shop! I'm located in Marquette and Big Bay is one of my favorite places to go hang out. Question. I know there is limited camping/ public shorelines between Big Bay/Marquette. How did you handle that part of the Hiawatha Water Trail?

Marquette is beautiful, you are very fortunate to live there. Camping was somewhat tricky and not as flexible as we would liked. We were unable to find a couple of the western sites and had to modify our plans. We could not find the first two listed sites. First night, Escanaba State Forest in an U designated spot by Little Presque Isle. Second night, we camped at John H. Hammer public access on the Laughing Whitefish River. Third night, was at Au Train Point in the Hiawatha National Forest. Fourth night in the Natl. Lakeshore. Fifth night at an Au Sable Point site. Once we got to the Pictured Rocks National
Lakeshore we had more possibilities. It would have been nice to camp on Grand Island but we opted to pass it by for that trip. All in all, some beautiful time on the water.
