Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

Thanks Lance. I'm hoping to get him trained up with the canoe while it's not too cold. Hopefully, his intelligence and natural love of water will help. Important thing to do with a fall pup before he gets big and capsize prone. ;)

Nothing like a good boat dog. Ruby Begonia my BC went on a week long canoe trip down the Willamette River in OR at 6 months. She stays put on the gear pile in a raft. Next week trout fishing in a drift boat.

I can't imagine going on a canoe trip without my best buddy Jake. You have a great looking canoeing buddy right there. I hope you guys have many awesome training days ... and terrific canoe trips together.

Good on ya!

Bob.

Oh my how cute. How big will he get? My last dog loved water. She had no compunction about leaving a canoe given the right visual ( moose or duck). Otherwise she just shifted around in a big boat. She did better in a little boat. 75 lbs.
Current dog HATES water and is the best canoe dog as he know he does not want to leave the boat! He has been at home in a small solo since day 1. He is only 50 lbs. not 75.

Looking forward to your dawg stories.

Let us know what worked for you and what didnt. I have a Chesapeake bay that turned 12 weeks old today. I took next week off to start her in a canoe.

good luck!

Not my dog or my training, that’s Lucy, riding on the bow seat in one of my canoes, her preferred dry, see-everything position.

Mike, That's impressive if swimming isn't part of the plan. Bogan lays down now, but he still fidgets, which isn't appreciated cutting white caps. Sitting in the front seat will never happen.

Well, he (Diesel) bailed out once, took a swim, and stayed in the canoe the rest of the time. My fault really, I was trying to deal with a windy entry and some rocks I didn't want to hit. The little guy just took a look over my knee and jumped. After the swim and a brief break to towel off and warm up in the sun, we went back and trolled the swimming beach. He didn't budge.;)
