Free Canoe Packs

Free packs listed on Craigslist NYC if anybody is interested.
Can anybody identify or tell us about this style?

Vertical wannigans.. Very common in Canada and Maine for teen canoe camping. Usually homemade. Those from what I can tell are made well.

We had them in a program I worked in for years up in the Adirondacks. They are a molded plastic and while they carry things well, especially bulky or hard edged items, down where the hip belt comes off the box there is a molded piece of plastic that rubs right into your lower back or hips. If my memory serves me correctly, the hip belt is attached to them and even if you take the belt off, the molded plastic remains as part of the box so there's no getting away from them. They might be more comfortable if you have narrow hips or a narrow waist but for someone my size, there's just no comfortable way to wear one.

Snapper, I see it! Hadn't noticed until you mentioned it. Looks like a wearing one for a long while would look like a rug burn when you were done! Ouch!

Doug - Just back from the Adirondacks; working for that program I mentioned. Yeah...wearing them was hard on the body; especially if your carry/portage was more than a 1/4 mile. Just not worth it in my opinion even if they're free. Sometimes even free costs too much.
