I'm considering buying this canoe and paddles but the gentleman does not know what it's worth. We both agreed to do some research and come to a fair price. I was hoping to hear from a few of you about what you think it is worth.

From the seller:
"There are some repairs on the bottom as you can see but it doesn't effect her at all. All 3 paddles are from Sawyer and have a fiberglass coating on them - really light and pretty expensive. On the inside the only thing wrong is that the foam on one side of the bow is missing - not really an issue but the screw that holds the front cover is exposed."

I'd say $500. It's an old canoe that won't be of interest to many people. If you get much over $500 you can start to find newer boats that will stand up better to normal use and also a more practical design. I don't see much value in the paddles.

Some people seem to have started thinking Sawyer's are a collectors item. I'm not one of them. But to be honest I feel that way about nearly everything. They made some really neat boats but they're still just a canoe. For canoes like this I'd base the price on what other boats I could get that would serve the same purpose at around the same weight.

I bought a Sawyer 17'2" Cruiser last year for $200. It was in better shape than that one appears to be, and my seller knew what he had.
As Alan said, it's an older boat that's heavy by today's standards.
Those paddles are about the same vintage as the boat...they were about $50 each when brand new (in the previous century!)

it seems those foam strips were to provide some knee cushioning for racing but I see no evidence of float tanks.. Was that common in Sawyer racing canoes?. My 190 has float tanks.

For your safety you will at least have to add airbags. This boat to me would be at best three hundred bucks with paddles.

You will find that this boat is at least 28 years old and there are better lighter constructions now for tripping.
