Totally Restored about 5 years ago by Jim in CT at Schuyler Thomson’s shop . Few planks were added. Plus end caps. I probably have a thread on the site somewhere.

What can I say about it?
Wonderful to paddle solo, last trip was with Robin up in Maine.

Just had my knee replaced again so the weight ( app 64 lbs) is an issue. I fell in love with the WC boats and enjoyed paddling it. Probably in the water 20-25 times.

Did discover a crack in a plank. The NJ Devil must have caught me on my pine barrens overnight.

I’m located on Long Island NY, willing to meet up somewhere when weather gets better.

Life changes aren’t easy. But I’m still going to continue canoe tripping.

I found pictures when I bought it in NH, did my own cleaning ( eye burn from that stripper).
Robin and I did some planking removal, then brought it to schuler’s shop to have them professionally restore and paint it.

I’ll post it on Chestnut canoe in Facebook, will add it to WCHA site and bring it up to Paul Smiths this summer during their assembly.
Thanks
David.

David, unless you object, I'm going to leave the thread here because the pictures are so nice, and it's an interesting example of how we all have many torn decisions about buying and selling canoes. I'll change the thread title, though. What is the canoe, a Chum?

I'm on Long Island too. Reach out if you want to paddle with someone who can carry the other end.
I also have a couple of wooden canoes.

Hi Glenn, that’s perfectly fine.
It was a tough 48 hours mentally and physically (knee replacement). Big thanks to friends ( Boatman53, Robin, Snapper) just listening to me rant and even explain the calendar next 2 years.
Yes Glenn it’s a Chum.

JohnSand sounds great. Just even to sit on the sidewalk and talk even look at boats for now.

ScratchyPants that’s perfect timing! Love it.

Might as well say it now, yesterday I contacted Dave Curtis……you know where this is going…….I placed an order on a new Hemlock Peregrine. He will accept my trade in of the Placid Rapid Fire that I stopped using since having the Chum restored. Now I get a dedicated canoe ( better for my knees) it’s easier to portage than the Rapid Fire ( which is a great boat with many happy memories ) PLUS i get to keep the Chestnut!

I am so blessed that Mrs Coldfeet understands. Will probably cost me more $ in the long run saying “yes” to her spendings. 😉
So which color did I choose?
I love the red but I’m not flashy unless it’s with my old disco clothes.
I love the dark green colors.
But if possible I’m asking for the sage green.

If anyone is confused about selling their canoe it’s great to talk to friends and discuss it. Like Glenn mentioned we all probably have gone through this or one day it will come up.

Best health to all.
David

Think you will really enjoy the Peregrine…very comfortable boat. Light and strong. Curtis/Hemlock canoes have been a blessing to the sport. Congrats.
