Has any one modified their CCS Lean shelter to accept a silicone stove jack? I think this would be an awesome combo for hunting season paddling.

Found the old BWCA.com thread. Linking here to maybe save someone else the time later. Dan built a prototype modified-pyramid shelter and was not pleased with the results.

Tryin’…….
On pages 36-37 of Bill Mason’s book ‘SONG OF THE PADDLE’ there are pictures and a illustration of what he calls a Closed Campfire Tent with a wood stove with stove pipe sticking out the front. You would have to fabricate three attached walls, for under the front canopy.
I would also take a piece of that fabric that the tent is made of to see what happens to it, when it’s exposed to really high heat or flame. I have had a wall tent made of treated canvas, that was exposed, accidentally to a burning mosquito coil ember. It didn’t burst into flames, but it did smolder a glowing 4X4 foot hole in the door.

BB, it's silnylon. I have another tent that is made of the material and already equipped with a stove jack. Silnylon melts with high heat and embers, no flaming.

That's a good tip from Song of the Paddle. Below are a couple images, should anyone find this thread in the future and wonder what we are talking about. I may try something similar, and avoid poking a hole in my Lean 3 for now.

I liked the idea of having a clear material to give a well lighted area during daylight hours for a work space.
Somewhat off topic but I friend of mine was a fighter jet pilot that knew anther pilot that crash landed a F-16 that burst into flames. His nomex flight suit, gloves and helmet kept him from getting burned while being rescued. His synthetic underwear however melted under his nomex suit. By the next morning military regulations required cotton or wool only material for under garments.
Old time trapper’s always left emergency clothes and food supplies away from cabins and tents in case of fire. I have complete arctic weather clothing for my bride and myself in our garage that is 150 feet away from our log home for that contingency. Walking to the nearest neighbor a half a mile away at -40° in pj’s might lead to disaster.
