Can anyone explain how this accessory works?

See the attached picture. I've not seen anything like this before but I think it is some sort of paddle holder. Does anyone have one of these?

Thanks.

Canoedad89,

They look to be toe clips for road bike pedals. The strap runs perpendicular to the length of the foot through that eye near the top where the ruler is.

If they are to be used on canoe foot braces, they may be used without the adjustable toe straps. Actually, this might be the only way to use them since the bottom of the straps should be held in place directly below the two slots on the toe clip (as they would be in the slots of the pedals). Unless the two pieces are attached to some sort of foot board.

I’d go with some sort of toe clip. It would seem awkward or insecure as a paddle holder. Without using the strap to hold the clip closed around the paddle I wouldn’t trust it to actively restrain a paddle, and using the strap would be a time consuming PITA to secure the paddle in place or unstrap it from the clip.

I tried a Scotty paddle clip on one of the early decked hull conversions.

Horrible product. In part because no matter where I located the clip it was in the way, either of my paddle stroke or roof racks in boat transport. In larger part because that clip was hell on wood paddles. There is a reason Scotty shows it with an aluminum shafted stick; when I tried it with a wood paddle it quickly scarred up the shaft.

Thanks for the replys. For some reason those items were included in a sale of a box of canoe stuff, so I wouldn't have guessed bikes.
