A while back I ordered two books, from Amazon, on canoe history. Canoes, a natural history in North America and The Canoe, an illustrated History.
Both are good books. Canoes, a natural history in North America is the much larger of the two and has tons of historical photos and artwork.
I learned a lot about dugouts that I didn't know. One of the things I was most attracted to was courting canoes. Apparently very big for a while. At least in Mass.
Old Town is featured prominently. There were many brands under the Old Town umbrella. Canoeing would not be what it is if not for Old Town.
The other book, The Canoe, an Illustrated History, is smaller, but offers some material, photos and art work not featured in the first book.
Anybody interested in canoe history would love these books.
