This summer, wile driving to the put in of our Big Salmon river trip, the South Canol rd was being plowed(dirt rd) and I saw something sticking out of the mud... So I stopped and the thing was a small axe, in good shape and look to be quite old and of good quality, so I picked it up.

I played with it this weekend and I think it will clean up nicely, the haft is still in great shape and I managed to remove it w/o killing it!! I even mange to take the steel wedge out and so I will clean every thing and reuse all but the wooden wedge!!

I will clean it all up, make it nice and gift it to my 9 years old daughter!!

If any one have a bit of info of that axe, mainly how old it can be....

Thank you Mike... Could be pretty generic axe, and maybe not really old even if the haft is really nicely shaped and that the grain is running the right way!!

I found this:

One of the major players, if not THE major player in axe history, Kelly has defiently made a place for itself it axe lore.

Here is a quick, perhaps not 100% accurate timeline run down - but shoudl be pretty close :

1875-76 - Old man WC Kelly gets things going - but not with axes at first
1896 - moves to alexandria indiana (Kelly Axe and Mfg Co)
1904 - moves to Charleston, WVa - Mfg Co and Tool Co names both used, some confusion here)
1921 - buys out the AATCo
1930 - bought out by AFHoeCo (now Kelly Axe and Tool Works)
1949 - realinged to True Temper name
1987 - Kelly Line sold to Barco Industries, Pa.

Cool, so anywhere from 1950 to 1987....

Nice find. Better than store bought imo, it has a history somewhere and now it will have a story that your daughter will tell around campfires to her friends and family.
