Hello.
My wife (47), father in law (76) and I (51) are planning a trip on the Allegheny river on a suitable weekend in November. Currently, the most likely weekend is November 8-10, but we reserve the right to change the dates based on weather forecast. Water levels are very rarely an issue on the Allegheny.
Our plan would be to meet in Emlenton, PA Friday evening. I’m a working stiff and can’t leave home until after work Friday. We would leave a shuttle vehicle in Emlenton and travel north to near Franklin, PA. A couple miles downstream of Franklin is a parking area from which we can carry gear about 1/3 of a mile into a spacious camping area complete with fire rings and some lean tos. We’d spend Friday night here.
Saturday, we will paddle downstream passing Danners rest (a good place to fill up on water) and probably camping on an island. Sunday, we’d finish the trip; probably reaching Emlenton by about noon or so. We’d take the shuttle vehicle back north to retrieve the boat carrying vehicles.
Total paddling distance is slightly over 33 miles. Current means you don’t have to work all that hard.
We do follow LNT rules while traveling. The most controversial rules we observe seem to be that all food is properly hung or stored in bear canisters.
If anyone in this community has an interest in joining the trip, please let me know what questions you have.
There is a good chance we will have a couple of friends join this trip as well.
We like to have fun and enjoy a campfire. We will have adult beverages in moderation.
