My grandson graduated High School on the 16th of June and wanted to take his friend fishing to the Allagash. Add to that he is now enjoying his summer down in GA at the world renown, All Inclusive Resort known as Fort Benning, so what the heck, I guess we're off to the Allagash one more time.
We got up there around 3PM and put into Indian Stream, the Colemans bounced and dragged a lot on the way down the stream, while I walked my Swift.
We had a quick visit at the Trains
Then a tough paddle across Eagle Lake with a strong rear quarter tail wind and lot of waves. We landed at Pumphandle campsite around 7PM and right after unloading the canoes we headed up the Outlook trail to catch a late day view of Mt Katahdin looking back across Eagle Lake to where we started.
Sunday we were up early and paddled to Churchill Dam, my son, grandson and Gus ran Chase Rapids while my granddaughter and I rode with the baggage down to Bissonette Bridge.
We had an interesting crossing of Umsaskis Lake with an 18mph tail wind. Running with the wind isn't all it's cracked up to be. We also had to fight our way down Long Lake past occupied sites to arrive at Sams only to find someone there also. It was another 3.3 miles to the next site, so I asked if we could share. It was a small two family group with a nine week old Chocolate Lab
It started to rain as we arrived at Long Lake Dam. The families and another father/son group went to the right and did the carry, we lined over on the right and past them.
and off into the rain
There was a little debate and differing opinions as to why my son and granddaughter ended up on top of this rock.
We put in at Inlet site down on Round Pond and set up the Tarp with a second adjustable pole design that I stole from GGTBod.
AND THE HEAVENS OPENED UP!
We were able to fill all our Water Bottles in that stream coming off the tarp.
Lily's new ride. One of the last new Royalex Trippers that was in the barn a Churchill Dam last year, now at Michaud Farm.
With all the rain we had a great two day run down from Round Pond. Lots of water in the lower river to carry us over all the gravel bars.
A quick stop in Patten to see a whole Lombard Log Hauler
