Adirondack/Stowe Canoe For Sale

I've decided that this boat I rebuilt is not one I'm going to paddle much so it's up for sale. It was started by Stowe Canoe as a special order by the first owner and somehow finished off by Adirondack Canoe both now out of business. The first owner told me he had it special made with a coat of carbon fiber on the inside. When I got it it was in rough shape from taking a sled ride down one hell of a hill. It is a Prospector hull which is not a hull I am a fan of but it does paddle nicely. A little info on it:

I'm asking 950$ for it. I live in Penacook, NH but could drive part way to hook up if someone is interested. A few pictures. Some are from the rebuild and others from it's first time hitting the water after the rebuild.

what is your opinion on it as a solo for a big guy (6'6" 300#)?

I took it out solo and was doing a wheelie from the back seat and I'm only 140 pds dripping wet. With a load it would handle well IMO. From the bow seat it was fine but it was empty at the time.

I solo a 16’ prospector loaded and unloaded and it is fine. Like said previously , paddle from the bow seat or you will probably be popping wheelies! I’m 6’-1” and almost 220#. It can be a handful in the wind if empty until you get used to it. On rivers it’s even better.

Nice looking canoe, maybe a one-off in its unique history; started (possibly as a custom ordered carbon layer) by Stowe and completed by Adirondack.

I like canoes with history.

Embrace the wheelie, that's what paddling an empty boat from the stern is all about.

With all that wood it weighed in at 63 pds before the scale broke on another boat. Not the lightest boat I own but not the heaviest.

16 foot Prospector and only 63 lbs? My 16 foot Chestnut Prospector weighs in at 85 lbs dry...

And yes Prospectors can be a handful to paddle solo empty and in the wind. But load em down and they are a different beast- as long as you don't have many long prtages! ,

Confession, I bought a 70 lb Taylor scale, maxed it out on the first weigh-in, and returned it (unbroken) for the 280lb version. I really hoped not to end up working on canoes that weighed more than 70lbs, but it keeps happening.

Robin, thanks again for the hanging scale suggestion, best $30 boatworks accessory ever. Having a scale, centered above where I do most of my boat work, has been wonderfully revealing. Now I just need to remember to use it more often, at least before and after rebuilds.

I do like that unique Prospector, and know it must have been a tough decision to let it go. Such a cool boat, and a piece of Mfg history.
