Those of you who are on Facebook and are members of View from My Canoe, check out the picture of the 95 year old, kneeling and paddling! Awe inspiring!

I just checked that photo out and before I looked at it I predicted that his shoulders would be rolled forward like the guy on our logo. I recently started getting symptoms of spinal stenosis which is a form of osteo arthritis aka wear and tear arthritis. My physical therapist told me that slouching and rolling my shoulders forward will relieve my symptoms, which it did. So my paddling posture went from upright and shoulders back to hunched over and slouching. It was a change I didn't see coming but after years of keeping proper posture it was good to be told it's OK to slouch.

My Dad is 95 and lives at home walking with no aids. He has 3 sports cars. He no longer paddles, but we often reminisce about a trip to Maine in 1958. Out on Lake Cupsuptic, we went past an OT w/c canvas canoe that was for sale for $40. We had no roof rack to get it home and passed on it. Dad still talks about it. He taught me everything about hunting, fishing, camping and backpacking and started my interest in w/c canoes on that day a long time ago.
