Night Fears: Worse with Hammocks than Tents?

I cannot see out of my warbonnet blackbird especially when I have my tarp pitched low which is most of the time if I dont know the weather forecast. I feel slightly more vulnerable in a hammock but I only tent with other people so its hard to compare. The hammock helps me sleep much better than...

    Oswegatchie Questions

The Adks have nothing on the boundary waters or any of the big spots in canada. We always do our adk trips on the shoulder seasons to try to avoid the crowds. Still a beautiful place to visit and it is close to us but I look forward to our big summer trip to the larger spots up north or out west.

Inukshuks, Cairns or Rock Piles: What to Do or Not Do?

I don't mind seeing them new or old. Time will destroy it all anyways.

    House wrap footprint

That stuff will probably not be waterproof. I use tyvek to make tent footprints, a winter emergency bivy sack and a hammock ground cloth. A tip to make real tyvek quiet is to wash it in a machine cold without soap then run it through the dryer on tumble with a couple other towels.

The Strange Things You See on the River

I love looking for useful junk on the riverbanks after winter or storms here in Vt. Some of it is good. Like that ladder might clean up nice. I find tons of great lures.

    Thunder Bay Ontario Intel.

It was our first time in Thunder bay last year on our trip to wabakimi. The place is definitely a working town. Its seemed pretty rough. Our hotel was pretty nasty. We did not find a good restaurant but we did like sleeping giant brewery. And yes the drug addict thing is true.

    Northern lights

Vanishing Trails, David and Lea Jackson

I prefer the old hand cut blazes on the trees compared to modern bright white or blue paint.

Obvious safety violation: Say something or keep quiet?

I will not bother unless there is immediate danger to the child. I'd rather not get stabbed by some crazy father.

There is also a nut under the washer. I have used this setup for 2 years now and still like it. I spray painted the 2×4 matte black to match the crossbars.I also installed a strap across where the wipers are that attach to the hood hinge brackets to tie the front of the canoe to that so it...

This is a forester I have with custom 2×4 roof bars. It burns oil like crazy since day 1 so I will not be going with another subaru in the future. The dealer says its normal haha yeah right! Everything else about it is great for a long distance travel vehicle except checking the oil every other...

    Explain Your Screen Name

Mine is my trail name from hiking the AT. The first day on the trail all I ate was dried mango and got mango sick. I felt fine right up to the point I could smell the smoke from the campfire at the end of the day. I ended up puking for an hour after that. My buddy said I looked like a scary...

    St Regis advice

Our group paddles the adks ever spring before bug season and every early october since we live near this area and like to avoid the summer crowds. We do one ten night paddle trip ever august or september in the bwca/wabakimi/la verendrye/wc. The adks are not as remote as most spots in canada. If...
