Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

Glad they had presence of mind and called it in. That guy should just lose his license.

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

Of course not. Those people are selfish and... low quality in general. People are never more their authentic selves than when they’re driving. So I would say there is very much, them and us.

    Building Laminated Canoe Paddles

I like that shallow water special. Much as I love my ottertail, there are numerous places I can’t use it here in the Big Bend (FL).

    Building Laminated Canoe Paddles

The same principle has been discussed with respect to boat and canoe hull finishes/surface treatments.

Probably wouldn’t work with a modern car.

    Building Laminated Canoe Paddles

I’m more familiar with “dihedral” referring to birds’ wings. A vulture has a pronounced dihedral, but eagles, falcons, and hawks do not. It helps in identifying them by silhouette when backlit or what have you. Gliding birds have a dihedral, fast birds do not.

    Sparkleberry Swamp- day trip

Yep, white ibis. There is also a glossy ibis in Florida at any rate, not sure about WV. Water hyacinth is better than hydrilla! Looks like a gorgeous place to paddle.

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

Bingo, that’s the critical thing. Critical eye, critical thinking and reasoning skills. We’re preaching to the choir here because we’re all of an age where we learned before there was AI; my kids are growing up in a digital era where they aren’t necessarily learning to differentiate between...

That’s a very cool shot of the green canoe flying low over the water!

Yes sir! Two sets of mayhem. First set was easy. Second set complicated things a bit 🤣

    Mora knives for camp.

It’s that compound grind that makes it work. It’s no comparison to a decent santoku, and I’ve got to go a lot slower than my normal slicing and chopping speed, but it works well enough!

    Getting Kids into Canoeing

I was in Boy Scouts but we didn’t do any canoeing to speak of. Summer camp in the Adirondacks, I’d do some with my uncle. But it was mostly with my high school cross country team where I built fond memories paddling canoes in a group. Utter mayhem and I loved it! I started hauling my kids...

    Mora knives for camp.

I like Moras very much. They’re quite capable, it’s impressive the abuse they take. Batoning seems to be the way they meet their demise, but they’re inexpensive enough it’s not a big deal. Or, use a small ax and the Mora will live a long happy life. I have several, and find I’m partial to the...

    Black Cherry Phoenix

Oh that is just gorgeous!!! I almost got my IXP Phoenix in red glass over Kevlar, but decided I’d better go with IXP. I’d have gone with that color (and cherry!) if I knew it was possible. Great pair BTW, my Polaris is Blacklight/aluminum gunwales. I often regret not getting wood, but the...

POLL: How do you pronounce portage?

Down here in the south, “carry” means to take a passenger in your conveyance, be it auto or canoe. If we have an obstacle to get around with a canoe, we would “tote” the canoe and gear around it. I carried my daughters down the Suwannee river, we had to tote everything around the Big Shoals.
