    Russell Green River Knives

lowangle al the epoxy seals the jute as far as I'm concerned. Maybe not if it was submerged for a really long time, but the knife would rust up well before the jute soaked up any moisture. That's a nice buy you made. I like.

    Russell Green River Knives

I made up a couple more Green Rivers lately. A hunter and a sheep skinner. I modified the sheep skinner to my take on a Nessmuk'ish style. It's a little more camp kitchen knife than a skinner. The blade must reach the bottom of the peanut butter jar. I don't like the standard handle profile on...

Thrust, is this a fair guide ?

Trolling motors are high acceleration low top speed. A 20 lb thrust or a 30 lb thrust will get your canoe to the same top speed. They are limited by the prop angle. I've seen people put model airplane props on trolling motors to increase top speed. They're cheap and it shouldn't be hard to swap...

    Best bow tie-down rope?

I just use the 1/4" braided polypropylene that I use as a bow line since it floats. Tied down with a truckers hitch. I've never had a problem with stretch. One issue I have had is the boat moving forward on the racks some while braking hard, making the bow to bumper tie down slack. If you need...

What's happening to the price of wood canoes?

They run a little higher around these parts... https://fayar.craigslist.org/atq/6182369866.html Haha, that's definitely the highest I've ever seen one priced here. Restored in the Midwest probably $1600-2800. There is no market, and I've never seen one on the water.

    What PFD do you use?

Several threads on this already. Here's one. http://www.canoetripping.net/forums/forum/general-paddling-discussions/general-discussion/51479-what-s-your-pfd I use an Astral YTV. Very simple and comfortable. Absolutely no chafing, it's got tons of arm room. NRS Ninja is very roomy too, but I...

    Congratulations Muskrat!

Thanks Kim! Pam took a great picture. If that picture doesn't make somebody want to experience the Buffalo river something's wrong.

    Square Barrels VS Round Barrels

The square ones are typically thinner plastic. That's just generally speaking. I've never seen white ones that size and shape. Yours look sturdy though. Nice clamps and lids.

Canoe advice for a disabled vet.

I agree with everybody here. 12 feet is too small for a canoe for that weight. Maybe a Jon boat would be best. I have a 10 ft that I can easily load on my truck ladder racks alone. I'm only 140 lbs. A twelve ft jon should work well for two people. I know they aren't pretty, but neither is a...

    Upper Jacks Fork, MO (Video)

No gimbal. That's what everybody thinks. I use a manfrotto super clamp with an Eken V8s camera. It's a go pro knockoff. We call them no pros. The V8s has really good native image stabilization. It reduces the field of view somewhat and then uses that extra space to "roll" like it does. I think...

Poll: How many alcoholic "drinks" per day on a canoe trip?

Three months ago in a group it would have been easily seven plus. I wish it could be 1-3, but now it has to be zero for the rest of my days. I will not go through those withdrawals again. In the past I have made my own whiskey, not sure if my moonshining days are over or not. I just need someone...
