    Freedom 17 Strip build

That's funny. I always end up trying building my way and at least half the time I realize it would have been a lot easier/cheaper/smarter just building the normal way. Oh well, the more mistakes I make the smarter I get!

If Rippy had finished my knife I would have been able to carve a new seat on site!

    Freedom 17 Strip build

With the great December weather we've been having I've been trying nag to get out on the water. Well the stars aligned and last Sunday my brother and I got out in our local river. It all was going beautifully when disaster struck. My brother was in the back, I was in the front and we were...

Knife build / canoetripping.net fund raiser thread.

Oops I did basically the same thing as Odyssey except I was just reading a post from Memaquay so I accidentally put his name on the entries I put in. Robin can you fix this? Just go through all of the entries that have Memaquay and change them to wysedav. Thanks.

Seeking info on 1967 and 1972 Yukon River Trips.

Wow that's pretty cool, I can't believe the amphicars made it. Not including the white one.

    Nokomis Build

Jim, I hope that glue is good, I was going to buy some tightbond 2 but saw the kind you liked so I gave it a shot. Did you get a new nozzle or did you buy tapered ones somewhere?

    Northwest Passage Solo

Well Christy I sure hope you're wrong! Where were you a few weeks ago before i cut the forms! If I keep the seat pretty low I think it will work out ok. The passage seems very similar to the Merlin which seems to be pretty well liked, hopefullythe passage paddles the same.

Jim, No great technical reason for the Kevlar, I just think it looks cool. And it covers up staple holes.

    Northwest Passage Solo

Yeah I think the staples shouldn't be that big of a deal, I just hate to damage the wood. I think with the dark wood, the staple holes shouldn't be so obvious.

    Northwest Passage Solo

Just kidding, I'm sitting here trying to decide if I really want to staple or not. Decisions. I really want to paint the outside and kevlar/carbon on the inside but I'm too cheap to spend $150 for just the inside. I really love the look of this boat (Green Valley Boats - Kite) and think...

    Northwest Passage Solo

Last week I picked up some salvaged 3 Redwood 2x6x10', I finally had some time to cut them up and finish the forms. I even cleaned up the mess in my shop! Here are some pictures...

    Jack's - Morris - Special

Canoe looks great. It stinks to run out of strips, I was about to start mine but when I looked at my woodpile I realized I only have enough wood for a quarter of a canoe. I feel your pain..

    GP build

Looks like your bow form is a little low, is that so you don't have to shape where it ties int the first form?

    Paddle Building first try.

Sailsman, I put duct tape in narrow strips on my bench every 3 inches or so. Next I stuck the staves to the tape, with the bevels face up this left nice v grooves to put glue in. Added glue brushed in with a chip brush and rolled it up. When you stick the staves to the tape pre tension the...

    Paddle Building first try.

This is really a pretty easy and quick build especially compared to a canoe! So far i have about 3-4 hours into it. The shaft is hollow, made up of 8 staves which you cut a birdsmouth in to aid in alignment and glue up. I tried the birdsmouth thing and didn't like it, although it seems like a...
