    Northwest Passage Solo

I thought I'd post an update, haven't made a ton of progress lately because I've been traveling for work. I'm pretty much past the bilge and now working the football area. Of course looking at my pile of strips I think I'm going to run short. I don't have easy access to more redwood so I'm...

With all the late entries I think I need to buy some more tickets. Still taking Paypal?

    Composite Bloodvein build

I thought you could take the mold off the forms carefully and lay a sheet of plastic under it and but it back on the forms that way you wouldn't have to worry about leakage. Or a nice 6 oz layer on top would have worked nicely as a vacuum seal, and then you could've given the "mold" to Jim so he...

Looks fantastic, I can't believe only 37 people in the pool I think I'm going to buy some more tickets.

    Composite Bloodvein build

Wow looking good. I'd be worried when doing 4 layers at once that there would be way to much epoxy. I guess you're using a really slow hardener? Are you worried about getting it off the forms? I thought you had a hard time with the other build. I would have love to see you bag the whole...

    Redwood?

I built a kayak a canoe and in the process of another canoe out of Redwood. I've had no problems with epoxy or working the wood at all, the kayak is about 3 yrs old and is holding up fine. It is a little stiffer but no real issues, on the kayak I had some tight compound bends and I just use a...

    Canoe Seats

Jim, what are the dimensions? The big one looks huge, I think I could have my kids lay the wrong way and take a nap like a hammock.

What's happening in your shop this winter?

It's funny to me that some people prefer the NiCads over Li-ion. I changed my Ryobi over to Lion about 5 years ago and it completely changed my opinion of the tools. Lots more power and speed and the charges lasted much longer and the small ones weigh much less. With Liion I can leave my...

    Northwest Passage Solo

Yeah I didn't really need the cheaters, the bends really weren't that bad. I was worried about what the football would look like, it seemed safer to get rid of the sweep. I have an old 12" craftsman band saw also, I can't believe I struggled for so long without it. I have a partial 50's 14"...

    Northwest Passage Solo

I've made a little progress, stripping is going OK. For some reason the forms seem to be a little off fair. When I built the Petryl and the Freedon 17 once I placed the forms everything worked perfectly. This build had a nested drawing set for the forms which I just printed out full size...

    Staples holes

Thanks for the follow up Jim, I think both look good to me. If I'm lucky with the darker Redwood I'm using the holes might just disappear. I mostly just don't want air bubbles behing the glass at the staple holes. Your techniques seem like they will do the trick.

    Strip Glue

I tried the max, I didn't love it. It seemed pretty thick and seemed to dry a little too quickly for me. I also got tired of peeling it off of my fingers, it builds up really quickly! I'm back to using tightbond. You have me scared about the staple holes. AS a first time stapler, I though a...

Cast Your Vote for Blade Finish in Knife Build FUNdraiser

Thank you for not voting! Then we'd still be tied and I'd never get my shiny new knife. I'm still trying to think of its new name, I already have the rhinestones for the sheath. Any ideas what rhymes with David?

    Xmas Gear.

What'd you get for Christmas? My only canoe related present was this glue dispenser. It seems to work pretty well. Great control and when you let go of the bulb is sucks the glue back in so no more drips or dried mess at the tip. This is a great idea from this forum. Put a glue holder...

Cast Your Vote for Blade Finish in Knife Build FUNdraiser

I haven't voted yet, I think mirror is my choice. After the drawing if I don't like it I'm sure rippy would be happy to.make it satin.
