    Audio recording

Zoom H1 is a decent little recorder but recording an entire night is going to be a challenge for nearly any recorder in terms of both memory and battery life. You can even get a dead cat for the zoom to cut down on wind noise, I've got one on mine and it works quite well.

    Lake Superior Provincial Park

I'm no help either with interior questions, but I can say the hike along the lakeshore is beautiful. Got engaged to my wife up by the Devils Chair, so LSPP is a special place for me.

5-night standard loop in Algonquin Park

Thanks a heap Sturgeon. I used jeffs maps on line to plan my trip and just got the hard copy in the mail 2 days ago, but it's a bit... meh. Thanks for the Clark link, I just downloaded it and if they have the Chrismar maps at the outfitter I'll pick one up. But the Jeffs map will definitely work.

    Hello from Jackson Michigan

Rivers like the AuSable and Manistee are great for beginner and experienced alike. There is nothing technical in either, just easy paddling.

    Painting Aluminum...

Aluminum should not be cleaned with steel wool, it can imbed bits of steel into the aluminum and cause corrosion. A little late now, hopefully you won't have a problem with it.

    Painting Aluminum...

As it happens they paint airplanes where I work, I'm not in the paint department, but I do know that we mechanically etch (sand) the whole airplane then chemically etch the whole thing, then alodine it. The alodine is a chrome conversion process that gives the paint the best chance at proper...

    DIY gravity filter bag

Thanks Mike. You could install a bulkhead fitting into the bucket and stick one of THESE in there until you wanted to turn it into a water system.

    DIY gravity filter bag

The filter I have is the one just a size larger than the mini, reportedly good for a million gallons, I'll loose it or wreck it before that.... Anyway I'm a fan of Sawyer filters but would bring along a syringe to back flush as necessary. We did 5 days in the Boundary Waters last summer and...

    DIY gravity filter bag

This is my gravity filter system that I use in the backcountry. I made one last summer and was ultimately quite happy with the performance and this year my sister and her family is getting into backcountry camping so I made this for her for their upcoming trip to Boundary Waters. Anyway, it's...
