Muddyfeet I have a slider seat so balancing the load was no problem for me. A magic with even a 25 lb load in the front and nothing to balance it will make the canoe handle bad. You will need to add weight in the back or something. The tool that is sold to install the rivet nuts will not work...

    Canoe modifications.

I did the modifications and did the trip. Canoe performed very nice. The young man paddled about ½ the time and when he did it helped. After one long portage he took a 2 hour nap laying back against the packs behind him. The canoe was stable and being a smaller canoe it was easy to handle and...

    Slider seat in a Magic

Those look real nice. If I ever rebuild I may consider a floor mount. What I like about my gunnel mount is that the area where my seat is not, is available space for packing. But I am trying to pack less.

    Slider seat in a Magic

I don’t know why I required my slider to hang from the gunnels but I did. Stripperguy’s floor mount would take up less room it the canoe leave space on the sides for gear or feet. I like it. Those are some nice looking boats. If you were a girl and changed your board name to match no one...

    Slider seat in a Magic

I am not a kneeler and I don’t think this setup would work well for kneeling. The seat is too low to get my feet under it. The adjustable seat height in dogbrains post may allow the back of the slider to be higher than the front. Madmike mentioned cane seats. I am not a fan of cane seats but...

    Slider seat in a Magic

Dogbrain I like that slider but it looks like the gunnels are the same width at both ends of the supports. That probably means that the seat will go from the place where a stationary seat would go and to the front of the canoe. Like Soruris Rivers solo slider. I never find I want to paddle a...

    Slider seat in a Magic

I like looking at the projects that are shown on this site and an impressed with the talent. Comparing them to similar projects I have done most are done better than mine. I do like my slider seat better than most other instillations I have seen. My wood is not the nicest and it is unfinished...

    Portaging with Paddles.

I use little plastic clips and shortened screws on a small piece of wood. They are stuck to the canoe with silicone calk or RTV. No Title Hope this picture works This is a jpg of a tracing of your drawing adjusted to size by measurements on my Magic. It is dimensioned to 3 places but it is not accurate to 3 places. I have added 2 copies of a downloaded cad drawing of the rivet. I show 2 installed not because I plan...

Mike I like the idea of a couple of one inch cushion-spacer for a quick try it a little higher. Your comment about “needs to be firmly stationary “ is why I did not like the milk crate Idea for a week long trip. As for displacement for the magic, I had looked that up and I would be getting close...

Alan You say you have a piece of Bell gunnel material. I need some dimensions. The rivet nuts are .355 inches long before instillation. I need to know if there is enough space on the inside of the gunnel for the uncompressed rivet. Can you stand the gunnel on end and lay a coin on it and take...

    Canoe modifications.

I would not do the trip if I did not have confidence that the boat would be stable. I have confidence because I have had a larger kid in that location in that canoe. I did the weight test on the gunnels. With the canoe setting in the grass I used buckets of water which weighed a total of...

Yellowcanoe He will paddle. I know his personality good enough to know he will want to paddle. One of my next challenges is finding a paddle the correct size because most of mine are too long for me. My neighbor may have one I just have not asked yet. We are going on a 7 day trip and I don’t...

    Canoe modifications.

Yellowcanoe You are correct I cannot/should not put him far enough forward to balance the trim. Why? What you said plus there would be no place for his feet. Three years ago I took a different kid (A little bigger kit but not much maybe 80 Lb) for an afternoon paddle on a local river. We used...

Yellow canoe Talk to me about stability. Ignoring the ability to paddle from this height for now. If I put his seat the same distance from the floor as my seat is and having very little rocker difference between where his seat is and mine is that going to upset my stability? I appreciate every...

Need help in deciding where to put a extra seat. I have a Bell Magic that I put a slider seat in so I can easily move the seat back 20 inches from its original position. I want to add a seat for a 60 pound person. I weigh 185 pounds. Where do I put the new seat? Is it as simple as keep the 2...
